lovers house

The House of the Lovers has reopened to the public 40 years after it suffered extensive damage in an earthquake. A rich dwelling with a well-tended garden, it's considered to be the greatest attraction of the ruined city that was buried by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD79. That's because it is the only 'domus' whose second floor and decorations were discovered almost completely intact. As such, it offers a vivid snapshot of life in Pompeii at the time and gives modern-day visitors immediate contact with the ancient world. Discover the enchanting world of Taylor Swift's "Lover" house, a place where the pop icon's creativity and personal life intertwine.

The Fur Ball Gala usually includes cocktails, a formal dinner, entertainment, comedy, music, silent auction, and an awards ceremony. The 2021 gala is expected to return to its usual in-person presentation, which is sure to generate even more support. As the project continues, Italy hopes to make the site more accessible to visitors and beneficial to the surrounding area.

A private and cozy setting for boxes of sentimental memorabilia and a projector for home videos, the attic represents a rare period in Swift's life when she wasn't in the public eye. In spite of being isolated, the attic has the same warmth as the rest of the home. When the Lover album was first released in 2019, no one would've guessed that a single image from its title track's music video would go on to feature in three additional albums and a worldwide stadium tour. However, the Lover House was a major backdrop throughout the Eras Tour. She burns it down during "Bad Blood" and exits through the orange front door at the end of the show.

At that point, only ten of the city’s buildings were open to the public—a far cry from the 64 open in 1956, reported National Geographic’s Frank Viviano in 2016. With the launch of the Great Pompeii Project in 2012, however, the situation has vastly improved. Researchers restored the three domus dwellings, or private family residences, as part of the Great Pompeii Project, a $140 million campaign funded chiefly by the European Union. The initiative strives to restore the city, which was famously buried by Mount Vesuvius’ eruption in 79 A.D., to its former glory.

And although the ’50s, ’60s, and ’70s have long since past, and Laurel Canyon’s feel and vibe has changed many times, today’s residents can still feel the enduring artistic history of the neighborhood. After Mama Cass died in 1974, the home would change hands a number of times between a host of celebrities. Later, Dan Aykroyd and his wife actress Donna Dixon called it one of their many homes. The Garden of Allah hotel, which was once located at the edge of the canyon and a favorite of many luminaries, was razed in 1959 for a bank branch. Although Cass’s friends, including Joni Mitchell, Frank Zappa, and Gram Persons, all lived in the canyon in nearby homes, it was here where they all seemed to rendezvous to share ideas, lyrics, joints, and beds.

Mama Cass is said to be the first of the “Free Love” generation to move into Laurel Canyon. Here, Natalie, Nick Adams, and Dennis Hopper are making dinner at the house in 1956. In 1957, Natalie met a handsome young actor named Robert Wagner who would later propose to her by secretly placing a pearl and diamond ring at the bottom of her glass of champagne. A tiny inscription on the ring read, “Marry me” and three weeks later he did. Get Los Angeles's latest local news on crime, entertainment, weather, schools, COVID, cost of living and more.

The Kitten Rescue will hold their 13th annual Fur Ball Gala on October 2nd, 2021. Last year’s star-studded gala was virtual, but that didn’t stop cat lovers from raising a staggering $150,000 to save the kittens. Special guests included Mark Thompson, Ahmed Bharoocha, Jackson Galaxy, Jenna Fischer, and more.

Dario Franceschini, Italy’s minister of culture, described the houses’ reopening as “a story of rebirth and redemption,” according to ANSA. Olvera Street was created in 1930 “to preserve and present the customs and trades of early California."  Many of the merchants on Olvera Street today are descended from the original vendors.

But now, following the completion of restoration efforts such as roof and floor stabilization, the suspected brothel is safe for all to explore. Artifacts discovered in the House of Lovers, from a basin to a bronze lamp and bone hinges, are on view in the building’s first-floor atrium. In 2013, three years after Pompeii’s House of Gladiators suddenly collapsed, Unesco threatened to place the ancient Roman city on its World Heritage in Danger list.
